DREF Operation Update # 3: Italy Earthquake
The situation

CHF 700,000 (USD 613,944 or EUR 460,808) has been allocated from the International Federation’s Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF) to support the Italian Red Cross in delivering immediate assistance to 15,000 beneficiaries and to replenish emergency stocks.

This DREF operation is an opportunity for Partner National Societies and donors to support the Italian Red Cross in its ongoing operations, and un-earmarked contributions to replenish the DREF are therefore highly encouraged.

    OVER 600,000 MEALS SERVED, 4522 VOLUNTEERS ON THE FIELD AND MANY MORE READY TO GO

    An extraordinary demonstration of solidarity, both from Italy and abroad has permitted the Italian Red Cross to raise significant funds from voluntary donations. To date, more than 6 million Euros have been raised (6.017.152,21 is the exact sum). The funds raised by the ItRC will be used in Abruzzo to provide social and health care assistance and to cater to the needs of the population.     TODAY AT L’AQUILA NATIONAL BASKET TEAM OF ARTISTS AND THE ITALIAN RED CROSS FOR ABRUZZO

    AMONGST OTHERS KASPAR CAPPARONI, FRANCO NERO, DJ RINGO, ROBERTO CIUFOLI, CARLO MASSARINI, ANTONELLO RIVA TOGETHER WILL SPEND THE AFTERNOON IN THE CAMPS
     
    AT 14.30 THEY WILL MEET THE MEDIA AT THE It.R.C. CAMP OF COLLE MAGGIO

    The team of artists and sportsmen, who have planned to play a game this evening at the Palasport of Teramo to raise funds, today will visit the camps of the Italian Red Cross and spend the afternoon with those living there.
     
    Today, Thursday 23rd of April, at Teramo, the National Basket team of Artists  will continue its commitment in the spirit of solidarity and together with the Italian Federation of Volleyball will play a game this evening to raise funds for those hit by the earthquake in Abruzzo.

    On the occasion of this event, the team consisting of artists and of sportsmen will join the Italian Red Cross in an important initiative of solidarity in the areas hit by the earthquake. The television personalities and sportsmen will have lunch at L’Aquila and afterwards, accompanied by the volunteers of the It.R.C., will meet all those housed in the camps. The group will visit the It.R.C. camps of Colle Maggio and Centicolella where two playrooms have been set up and will entertain the children and donate basketballs autographed by the popular personalities supporting the initiative.

    Those participating at the event are Kaspar Capparoni, Franco Nero, Antonello Riva, Dan Gay, Simone Barazzotto, Dj Ringo, Roberto Ciufoli, (Premiata Ditta), Jimmy Ghione (from the programme Striscia la Notizia), Roberto Brunamonti, Mino Taveri, Carlo Massarini (tv presenter), Alessandro Feliù (Isola dei Famosi 8), Pietro Colnago (Sky), Stefano Mazzavillani (Datura), Ciro Pagano (Datura), Giacomo Crosa (Tg5 - sport), Luca Benedetti (press office National Basket team of Artists), Lorenzo Battistello (Big Brother 1° edition).

    The National Commissioner of the Italian Red Cross, Francesco Rocca, the Head of the Health and Social Care Department of the It.R.C., Leonardo Carmenati, and the President of the National  Basket Association of Artists  Nazionale Basket Artisti, Simone Barazzotto, will also be present.
